Information About Our Ragdoll Kittens
Dry Food
Cats and Kittens are eating Life’s Abundance (All Life Stage Cat Food) a high-quality multi source proteins for strong muscles and antioxidants and micronutrients for cellular health. It contains Omega-3 fatty acids for healthy skin and a shiny coat. This can be ordered through my website.
Litter
Kitten uses Fresh Step Clay litter. Do not use clumping litter while the kitten is young. Young kittens can munch on litter and the clumping litter will cut off their air supply. You can change the type/brand of their litter when your kitten is 5 months old.
Needed for Your New Ragdoll kitten and Info for a Smooth Transition
*You will need to purchase dry and canned food (as stated above), a cat carrier to take your baby home, litter box, liter, cat condo with scratching post, two stainless steel or ceramic bowls for food and water (no plastic…it promotes bacteria) and of course some toys for your new baby kitten.
**When you get your kitten home, please feed him/her some wet food as soon as possible and provide a bowl of water. If he/she doesn’t drink add some water to the wet food to hydrate your new baby. The kitten will drink eventually as he/she adjusts. Dry food should always be left next to the water bowl for the kitten to graze 24 hours a day. Put the food, water and litter box in a small closed-in area until he/she gets to know the new surroundings.
***Ragdolls are very smart so train them young with consistent commands. It is natural for a kitten to want to scratch furniture. Make sure you have scratching posts. You can also have soft paws but on their nails by your vet until they are old enough to understand that furniture is not for scratching. They will learn! Kittens should never be sprayed with water bottles or hit on the nose to reprimand them. They do not understand correction through these abusive methods. Instead distract them with a toy, clap your hands loud to catch their attention and say NO. Eventually they will learn that whatever they are doing is not acceptable and will respond to the loud noise, sound of your voice and facial expression to know this is unacceptable behavior. Patience and consistency is the key!!
****Kittens have a lot of energy. They like to play and wrestle with litter mates. I recommend adopting two kittens so that they entertain each other and have each other for exercise. So many clients adopt one and soon after coming back for another for a playmate for their first kitten. It seems to make the transition easier for all.
******The Rabies vaccine should never be given to your kitten at the same time he/she receives the FVRCP vaccine. This is too much for a small kitten and could cause a bad reaction. The Rabies vaccine should be given three weeks after the third FVRCP. For schedule of vaccines refer to your contract.
